Following a pattern

When I first started crocheting, I just started with the basic single crochet. I would try to make a lap blanket… well come to find out that took FOREVER!!

My grandmother, then taught me to double crochet (once she saw I had “mastered” the single crochet). I started making blankets with the double crochet stitch… it cut down on the time… WOW. I bet I made dozens of little baby doll blankets, barbie blankets, etc.

I then decided that I was ready to tackle a pattern. I went to the nearest book store and found a crochet book of animals. I looked at the book and thought to myself… “I know all these stitches, I should be able to complete one of these.” It took me awhile to finally get the stitch sizes correct but I did it.

The first cow I made was not very good. My single crochet stitch was loose. So when I started to stuff the body part, I noticed that you could pull the stuffing out of the stitches… but I was ok with that…. I just wanted to complete the pattern. Then I found out how much time it took to completely put the cow together. WOW = 3-4 hours to assemble.

I was proud of myself for at least taking on the challenge, and completing it.

Since then I have completed several different animals. Some patterns are easier then others, some just take more time, more stitches, etc.

Don’t give up… keep crocheting through what ever problems you have… there are groups out there that can help, OR YouTube is a great resource for videos – for different stitches, patterns, etc.

Happy HOOKING
